News BACK
In previous years, the Randallstown Rams Basketball Team was revered as one of the perennial athletic squads in the state of Maryland. Within the past five years, the Rams managed to win three consecutive State Championships under head coach Kim Rivers. Sadly, Coach Rivers left in 2008 in order to pursue other ventures. Along with the loss of Coach Rivers came a decline in athletic flair; the Rams were no longer the basketball powerhouse they once were. This complete switch in performance led the people of Randallstown to wonder if there could ever be a resurgence of the Rams Dynasty. Judging by their opening match against the Catonsville Cougars, the answer is a resounding “YES!”
Friday’s season opener against Catonsville took place on Randallstown’s home court. The fan turnout was amazing and assisted in giving the Rams the confidence necessary to thoroughly embarrass the Cougars in an 89-46 victory. Number 21, Chaz ‘Cheesy’ Sharp led the Rams in scoring, dropping 20 points total. Dijon Hawkins dropped 13 and Nick Doolin contributed 11 points. The match also marked the debut of Michael Oyefusi, formerly a dominant Junior Varsity player. Good passing and strong inside presence by Ricky ‘Koose’ Mitchell and Malik Small collectively assisted in a dominant win over the Catonsville Cougars. The next match will take place at home next Friday against the Woodlawn Warriors. Only time will tell if this decisive victory is truly the return of the Randallstown Rams.
