My weekend with the Washington Wizards was a great experience. For starters, On Saturday, January 9, 2010, I met Jenny Corace, the Development Director at Sportz Ventures, who made it possible for us to attended the practice of the Washington Wizards at The Verizon Center, take pictures of the court and interview some of the players. The very 1st player we met was the 7 foot, Brendan Haywood who is the center for the Wizards and to my surprise he made me feel like a midget. After we finished watching them practice we talked with the DA and the person who is in charge of security. They both explained to us how they got where they are today and explained that school is important but it is also not what you know but sometimes who you know. As the day progressed we met more players; Randy Foye, Earl Boykins, Antwaan Jamison and James McGee.

We learned a lot about their personal interest. We got a glance at the Head Coach Flip Saunders being interviewed by professionals that work for CSN. We also visited their Conference Room watching employees of ESPN, CSN, News Casters and members of the press viewing games being played by other teams.

Saturday was quite interesting but Sunday proved to only be better. On Sunday, we all met at12:30 and began in the Conference Room where we were served breakfast and watched other team games on the televisions around the room. We were only given a short time to eat since we had to find out where we were sitting. Once we found where we were sitting we returned to the conference room and took a few pictures before the game started. Prior to the start of the game we went to our seats which were in the Press Box. The press box had 2 televisions, one had the stats on it and the other gave us a closer look at the game. I was quite amazed at the excellent view that we had of the court. You could see the players and everyone in the crowd; the press box gave us a panoramic view of the center.

At the end of each quarter we received a stat sheet giving a play by play description for all the players, not just the Wizards, but also the opposing team, the Hornets. At the end of the game we were given a final report summarizing the entire game plays. Even though the Wizards experienced a loss, the game was pretty good. Once the game ended we were escorted to the conference room where Flip Saunders, the Wizards coach, was being interviewed regarding the game and he spoke of what he needed to do to improve the team and win future games. Below is a photo collage of some of the photos I was able to take. The weekend was awesome; I hope to be able to experience more of these events in the future.
