On January 9th and 10th, I was lucky enough to experience a day in the life of a sports journalist. Through my internship with Sportz Ventures, I met several Washington Wizards players and personnel- the trip to Washington included four of my fellow interns as well as my school counselor Mr. Dyson, and Ms. Corace, the program coordinator. On the 9th, we focused primarily on the micromanagement that goes into running a professional sports franchise. During this time, I was introduced to the Head of Public Relations for the Wizards, Brian Sereno; Mr. Sereno was very kind and accommodating to all of us. We also met the Director of Team Services, Jackie Miles. Both men were very knowledgeable in their craft and taught us several things about the nature of their professions. Aside from staff, we also interviewed many players. From Brendan Haywood to Randy Foye, we met a large portion of the Wizards’ line-up.
January 10th was the game day- we were presented with press credentials and sat in the press box. Personally, this is the first time I had ever attended a professional sports event and the trip was an outstanding introduction. Many photos and videos chronicle what I believe to be lifetime memories. Although the Wizards fell short in a 110-115 loss to the New Orleans Hornets, it was still an unforgettable experience. Thank you Ms. Corace.
